This small suburb takes its name from the sheltered cove that forms its northern boundary. The cove was named after Alfred Waylen, the original grantee of Swan Location 74 which took in most of the present day localities of Myaree and Alfred Cove.

On the southern banks of the mighty Swan River, about 13 kilometres from Perth’s CBD and 7 kilometres east of Fremantle, Alfred Cove is a pleasant suburb and has a most sought after location.

There are a couple of generous waterfront reserves which give easy access to the Swan's Lucky Bay, at one of the river's widest points. Recreational fishing and prawning, sailing and motor boating are popular pursuits on this reach of the Swan.

At Wireless Hill, on Alfred Cove’s eastern boundary, there are some great river views from the lookout, and it's here you'll discover a Perth landmark – the Wireless Hill Telecommunications Museum, which stands at the site of the first communications radio in Western Australia.

The building in which the museum is established was built in 1912 and is one of Australia's earliest links with radio. The collection of equipment on display represents a range from early radio technology to sophisticated, modern equipment, illustrating the evolutionary process of this communications medium. The museum is now an integral part of Wireless Hill Park, which covers an area of some 40ha that has been developed as a nature reserve. (Source: Travelmate.com.au)
